Porsche Offers the 2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid for Fuel-Conscious Drivers

The 2015 Porsche Cayenne lineup at Porsche of Tucson, includes a diesel-powered model and a plug-in hybrid. The 5-passenger, midsize SUV comes in four trims: Diesel, S, S E-Hybrid and Turbo.

The sporty, new Porsche Cayenne is provided with considerable improvements. The Cayenne S model currently provides a turbocharged V6 instead of a V8. In addition, the plug-in S E-Hybrid replaces the previous year’s S Hybrid. The Turbo also receives 20 extra horsepower, along with the identical torsional power rating as the previous Turbo S. The suspension configuration has been refined to enhance ride and handling. Also, the offered air suspension currently comes with a retractable load sill in the cargo space. A surround-view parking video camera is currently available, as well as ventilated back seats. Updated external styling, active grille shutters and extra standard functions (with a commensurate increased base cost) complete the vehicle’s improvements. Be aware that the base, Turbo S and GTS trim levels are not available this model year. However they will be back for the 2016 model year.

Even though the fuel-efficient diesel engines are still available, the Cayenne S is taking the next step in both performance and fuel economy with the introduction of the new S E-Hybrid. The S E-Hybrid is the first plug-in hybrid in this segment. Drivers can expect 14 miles of an all-electric drive. While that isn’t a long distance, it is great for short trips. A larger battery pack provides additional energy to supplement the gas engine. The acceleration of the S E-Hybrid is very similar to the Cayenne S, but the fuel economy has been drastically improved.

There have been many updates to the exterior of the new Cayenne, including a new fascia at the front and rear, redesigned LED taillights and new LED headlights. The one sticking point for the Cayenne is the lack of cargo space for a vehicle of this size.

The 2015 Porsche Cayenne’s all have an 8-speed automatic transmission and two versions of AWD. The AWD for the Diesel and S E-Hybrid have a single-mode system with a self-locking center differential. The S and Turbo have active systems that include two extra off-road settings and a locking differential at the rear.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid comes with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that combines with the electric motor to output 416 horsepower and 435 pound foot of torque. The vehicle will do an impressive 0 to 60 mph dash in 5.4 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, the E-Hybrid gives an estimated 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and a combined 22 mpg.

The S E-Hybrid doesn’t lose any power or performance to the S model, but drivers have the option of electric-only driving for short trips.
